Summary

It is widely accepted that an increased consumption of polyunsaturated fatty acids provide antiatherogenic, antithrombotic, antiinflammatory, platelet aggregation inhibitory, blood pressure and plasma triglyceride concentration decreasing effect. Much less information is available about the potential antiarrhythmic effect of these compounds. The aim of the present paper is to review the literature about the effect and possible mechanism of n-3 and n-6 type unsaturated fatty acids in arrhythmias in experimental animals and in clinical investigations.
