Summary

Technological development with the more precise understanding of the mechanism of arrhythmias made catheter ablation to an effective treatment modality in the treatment of ventricular tachycardias. Accordingly, the latest European guidelines emphasize the importance of catheter ablation instead of drug therapy in the treatment of ventricular arrhythmias. In our current paper, we summarize the utility of catheter ablation of ventricular tachycardias with an emphasis on the changes made in the latest guidelines.
In general, catheter ablation is a curative procedure in patients with idiopathic ventricular tachycardias (in structurally normal hearts), while in patients with structural heart disease the modification of the arrhythmogenic substrate effectively reduces the burden of recurrent tachycardias resulting in an improved quality of life.
