Summary

Hungary has joined the Eurotransplant 5 years ago and regarding to this occasion, we have reviewed the experiences and the results of the increased cardiac transplantation activity. It has been evaluated that the longer ischemic transport time which comes with the foreigner donors, does not influence the perioperative primary graft failure, as well as the in-hospital mortality. They have assessed the impact of the elevated numbers of heart transplantation on the waiting list, and stated that there is still „dormant” territories , from where the end-stage heart failure patients are insuffitiently reported. The incidence of sexagenerian transplant recipients are growing, but in case of proper patient selection, this issue does not manifest in the surgical risk.
