Summary

Sudden cardiac arrest is still one of the leading causes of cardiovascular death in developed countries today. In Europe, the frequency is about 84/100,000 people per year. In the last decades, a number of risk factors have been identified that can be used to improve the prognosis. In this paper, we present the incidence of in-hospital cardiac arrest (IHCA) and out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA), their major prognostic factors, and possible tools to improve survival of this patient population. In addition, we have summarized the new, 2021 guidelines concerning the basic and advanced resuscitation protocols.
