Summary

Aim: The aim of our study is to determine the positive benefits of the inclusion of advanced practice nurses in the prevention of cardiovascular disease, as well as the introduction of a new preventive approach to GP care.
Patients and methods: Analysis of the test results of patients (n=170) published on the prevention order of the Páty II GP practice between 1 June 2021 and 30 June 2022 for cardiovascular diseases.
Results: Only 53.1 percent of hypertensive patients were on a clinic target. 56.6% do not have a blood pressure check at all in their home. During the office screening tests, two patients were diagnosed with asymptomatic, previously undiagnosed atrial fibrillation, 18 patients had peripheral arterial vascular disease, 26 patients had distal-type sensory neuropathy, and five patients had coronary disease. In the latter case, the age (p=0.015), the atrial fibrillation (p=0.025), the sex (p=0.037), and the smoking (p=0.047) played a significant role in the development of the disease. Of the 95 patients who had previously been given antilipaemic therapy, 36 (37.89%) continued to have dyslipidaemia. A further 52 people who had not previously received medication were also diagnosed with dyslipidaemia.
Conclusions: Based on our test results, the significance of the prevention order is unquestionable. On the other hand, the lack of human resources for GPs makes successful prevention activities significantly more difficult. By involving the advanced practice nurses, we can successfully improve the care management of chronically ill patients by simultaneously relieving the burden on GPs.
