Summary
Beyond the ablation of cardiac arrhythmias, electrophysiologyical studies (EPS) have an important role in risk stratification of sudden cardiac death and in identification of the inducibility of life-threatening ventricular arrhythmias. This review summarises the role and importance of the EPS according to the 2022 ESC guidelines for the management of patients with ventricular arrhythmias and the prevention of sudden cardiac death. Numerous cardiovascular diseases carry an increased risk for sudden cardiac death, thus electrophysiological studies may help in the risk stratification and facilitate everyday decision-making.
